Join Tavern Books for an afternoon of lawn games, river swimming, and poetry in celebration of the 2nd annual Wrolstad Residency! 2018 resident Wendy Chen (Unearthings, 2018) is generously opening up The Rice Place — the site of her month-long Tavern Books residency — to the general public. This will be a great opportunity to meet Wendy, hear a brief program update, listen to live music, and relax on a gorgeous 10-acre estate just outside the city. Thank you to the Friends of Clyde Rice for partnering with us on this exciting program, and to Lagunitas, our beer sponsor.
Program (subject to change):
12pm - 1:15: Lunch, games, river swimming
1:15pm: Live music - Alicia Jo Rabins
2pm: A word from the editors
2:15pm: Wendy Chen reading
2:45pm: Raffle
3pm - 4pm: More games, river swimming
4pm: Live music - Ed Skoog sing-along!
What to bring:
a dish or drink to share (optional)
a picnic blanket
sunscreen
a swimsuit & river shoes if you plan to swim
How to get there:
From I-205 S. take the Estacada exit (Exit 12A, Rte. 224). Loop around and merge onto Rte. 224 going east, toward Clackamas. At the large “Y” intersection (stoplight, with produce market on right), turn right to stay on Rte. 224 and follow signs to Carver. Bear left and proceed about ½ mile to sign on right that says “Eilers Circle”). The Rice Place is the second driveway on the right off this gravel road, also marked with a small sign. Map.
Parking:
Once you turn onto Eilers Circle, follow the balloons and signs to park in the field. Please consider carpooling, as space is limited! For those without transportation, we have a limited number of extra seats available; please just call us (720-771-4078) before Friday to let us know if you'd like us to try to coordinate a ride for you. ***Please no parking on the gravel road or in the driveway of the property***
About the Wrolstad Contemporary Poetry Series:
To honor the life and work of Greta Wrolstad (1981-2005), author of Night is Simply a Shadow (2013) and Notes on Sea & Shore (2010), Tavern Books established The Wrolstad Series, which exists to champion exceptional literary works by young women poets through book publication and a month-long residency.
